Purchasing Department - Business and Finance
The Process
It is the policy of the Board of Education to ensure that each item purchased represents the best possible value to the District and its taxpayers, and that each purchase complies with requirements under the law. New York State law requires requesting bids for commodities when an item or commodity group exceeds the dollar limits established by General Municipal Law, Section 103. When competitive bidding is required, the District will issue a Request for Bids (RFB).
The District is required by law to advertise RFBs in the newspaper(s) designated for that purpose by the Board of Education. The District also maintains bidder lists for each of the commodities that are bid on a regular basis. These vendors are automatically notified when requests for bids are being solicited by the District. Any vendor that is interested in being added to a specific commodity list should contact the purchasing agent of the District.
In an effort to make opportunities available to even more potential bidders, the District has created this webpage so that any interested party may have convenient access to information regarding the purchasing needs of the District.
The District may also seek competition when needing professional services. These solicitations are called Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and will also be posted to this webpage and sent to designated lists of vendors.
If you have questions regarding a specific bid or proposal, or would like any additional information regarding our purchasing practices, please contact the purchasing agent of the District.
Donations
Only the Board of Education may accept for the school district any bequest or gift or money, property or goods, except that the Superintendent of Schools may accept on behalf of the Board any such gift of less than $1,000 in value.
